Ancient Ram Inn
All you need to know about a
ghost hunt at Ancient Ram Inn...
The Ancient Ram Inn is said to be one of the most haunted locations in Britain and is a grade II listed building and a former pub located in Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire. The inn has had many owners since 1145 and is said to have been owned by the local St. Mary’s Church when it was first built and was a former priests residence.
The Ancient Ram Inn sits on the intersection of two lay lines which are areas that certain people believe contain significantly high spirit energy. The site is also home to a 5000 year old pagan burial ground.
The building first housed masons, slaves and workers who were constructing St. Mary’s Church which is located directly across the street from the inn. Streams on the inns grounds had to be redirected around the church’s site and many believe that the redirecting of the water on the Ancient Ram Inn site opened up a portal for dark energy. The land and the inn itself have been used for sacrifice and devil worship.
One of the most well-known legends surrounding this haunted location is that of a witch who was burned at the stake. The burning occurred in the 1500’s in the height of the prosecutions against those who did not practice government sanctioned Christianity. Many believe the Witch’s spirit still haunts a particular area of the inn because she took refuge there shortly before her capture and death.
There are claims that the inns former gentleman owner was dragged out of bed and pulled across the room by an unseen entity on a number of occasions. It is said that the body of a lady was buried beneath the bar area and haunted this area, letting her presence be known by moving objects, touching people and making noises.
The Bishops room is the area where the most daunting activity takes place with countless sightings in this room which include the ghost of a cavalier and the ghost of a young lady seen hanging from the ceiling. Apparitions of monks have been witnessed on numerous occasions and in the old barn which adjoins the building there are unexplainable tall dark shadows which move which create one of the most terrifying feelings ever encountered with people frozen to the spot in sheer terror.
