The Judge’s Lodging
All you need to know about a
ghost hunt at The Judge’s Lodging...
The Judge’s Lodging, in the small Welsh border town of Presteigne, is the former Shire Hall for the County of Radnor and is now an award-winning museum. It recently opened its doors to paranormal investigation teams and has been featured twice on Most Haunted.
You will have access to the full suite of 14 period rooms of the building, including the judge’s apartments, servants’ workrooms, two holding cells and the vast courtroom itself. The building was opened as a court and judge’s residence in 1826, seeing cases of all types from throughout the county. It continued to operate as a court for 150 years. The previous building on the site was the county gaol; a grim affair according to surviving accounts. It was demolished to make way for the grand building you see today.
There are many reports from visitors and staff members of ghostly goings on and spirit activity, footsteps, the apparition of a large man, objects being thrown, doors slamming and dark shadows are frequently seen moving in the corridors.
